There is something nice about Northland. No, it isn’t the Auckland traffic that needs battling to get there, but the scenery, the pace of life, maybe it’s the people. Whatever it is, we quite like it up there! We’d had a couple of great experiences at the Sandbar, so we thought it was about time we shared it, so others knew it was there too. Out of the blue, we got an email from one of our followers, inviting us to stay with them near Ruakaka. Well, this wasn’t your average sleeping bag on the floor arrangement. Carolyn and Kel have set up a Riders’ Rest annexed to their house overlooking Bream Bay. A snug with books, log fire, beer-stocked fridge, CDs and a stereo overlooking the bay. Then, across the deck, past the outdoor shower-with-a-view is a full ensuite motel room. Want to know more? Visit them here: Riders’ Rest.
So, where was I, ah, talking about the café run. So, not content with putting us up for the night, Kel leapt on his bike and led us down to the café with two of his friends joining us along the way. The Sandbar as a café was a bit unremarkable, but WOW, we had about 17 people come to join us! Stoked! We share comments with people through our Facebook group posts, but when those people turn up and we actually get to know them, it is totally different. Looking forward to seeing all of those great folk again soon!
